INSIDE M&C SAATCHI

M&C is the second company the two brothers Maurice and Charles Saatchi created, and in Sydney, it holds some of the biggest accounts in the country.

I first learned about M&C just before working with Saatchi & Saatchi. M&C Saatchi is the second company the two brothers Maurice and Charles Saatchi created. The company has roughly 2,400 staff spanning 23 countries with major hubs in the UK, Europe, US, Middle East & Africa, Asia and Australia. Their Sydney presence holds some of the biggest accounts in Australia and was rated the most innovative company in the country. I was fascinated particularly by Maurice Saatchi who served in the House of Lords for the Conservative party. The two brothers created an empire with their first company Saatchi & Saatchi and their parting and formation of the newer agency, M&C, went through all kinds of controversy but the quality of work and depth of talent is undeniable. The company philosophy, ‘brutal simplicity of thought’ made me think that at least Maurice was a real ideas person and opened up a lot of ideas to me on what advertising is and can be. On the books, I’ve worked with M&C for 5 years on and off. This is a photo of the Macquarie Street office where I worked on Optus, Commonwealth Bank, Fairfax and numerous other brands. The building M&C calls home is a grand 1930’s Sydney sandstone building that used to house a bank. The main hallway pictured is where the bank’s customers would walk in and do their transactions. Now a large table fills the hallway and is home for Friday afternoon drinks. I’ve also worked at the Greenhouse, their dedicated client office for Woolworths.
