INSIDE M&C SAATCHI

M&C is the second company the two brothers Maurice and Charles Saatchi created, and in Sydney, it holds some of the biggest accounts in the country.

I first learned about M&C Saatchi just before working with Saatchi & Saatchi. M&C Saatchi is the second company founded by the brothers Maurice and Charles Saatchi. The company boasts around 2,400 staff across 23 countries, with major hubs in the UK, Europe, the US, the Middle East & Africa, Asia, and Australia. Their Sydney presence manages some of the largest accounts in Australia and was rated the most innovative company in the country. I was particularly fascinated by Maurice Saatchi, who also served in the House of Lords for the Conservative party. The two brothers had already created an empire with their first company, Saatchi & Saatchi. Despite the controversy surrounding their departure and the formation of the newer agency, M&C Saatchi, the quality of work and depth of talent at M&C Saatchi is undeniable.

The company philosophy, “brutal simplicity of thought,” resonated with me and made me appreciate Maurice Saatchi as a real ideas person. It opened up many new perspectives on what advertising is and can be. Over the years, I’ve worked with M&C Saatchi on and off for about five years. This is a photo of the Macquarie Street office where I worked on major brands like Optus, Commonwealth Bank, and Fairfax. The building M&C calls home is a grand 1930s Sydney sandstone structure that used to house a bank. The main hallway, where bank customers once conducted their transactions, now features a large table for Friday afternoon drinks.

I’ve also worked at the Greenhouse, their dedicated client office for Woolworths.
