Inside Saatchi & Saatchi

Nothing is impossible.

Nothing is impossible. Three words that embrace what striving for perfection feels like. Saatchi & Saatchi is probably the most famous advertising agency. In the 1980s the two brothers, Maurice and Charles Saatchi had expanded their advertising agency to 114 offices in 76 countries across the globe making it the largest advertising agency in history. The brothers created incredible ground-breaking art and communications pieces that reinvented advertising and the agency model. So when I was asked to contract with them I said yes in a heartbeat. Talking of heartbeats, mine was racing when I got to the door of their office. I was about to really start work as a world-class designer and I was nervous and doubting myself. All the great work I’d done before vanished from memory when I walked in the door, this was a place I found about it years before when searching for the best of the best in my field. As you walk in the door there’s a plaque as you walk in, ‘nothing is impossible’. It’s the company mantra and it’s maybe the best. As a creative, it opens up possibilities giving you the freedom to ideate and create incredibly cool and beautiful things. One such incredible work I made when I was there was a life-size Lamborghini toy box (with a real Lamborghini inside) to promote Big W’s toy sale. It was positioned around key parts of the city. I actually went to see it and was thrilled. People were crowding around it like children at Christmas time. The view isn’t bad either, located in the Rocks in Sydney’s Circular Quay, my desk was against the window with an outlook of the harbour and Opera House. An incredible experience creating an iconic Australian rebrand of Big W.
