INSIDE AKQA

Working at AKQA in Miller's Point, Sydney, was like being part of the beating heart of the digital design world. As one of the most prestigious digital agencies globally, AKQA’s reputation precedes itself.

It’s known for pushing boundaries and setting new benchmarks in design and innovation. Having followed their work for years, finally stepping into the role of Senior UI/UX designer there was both surreal and incredibly rewarding. The project I was primarily focused on during my time at AKQA was for the NBN, where I worked on a kiosk display. The brief was simple yet exciting: create a fun, intuitive, and visually engaging UI to help users understand the complexities of the NBN rollout and how to set it up. What we were doing wasn’t just about providing information; it was about immersing users in a smooth, engaging digital experience that could take something technical and make it feel seamless.

With the guidance of a brilliant head of UX who led our team with a clear vision and insightful feedback, I had the opportunity to design a 3D animated interface. The experience of transitioning between pages was built to feel smooth, dynamic, and completely intuitive. It was a perfect blend of aesthetic design and practical functionality—a hallmark of AKQA’s work.

Collaboration was key. I worked alongside a talented team who brought fresh perspectives to the table, each with their unique strength. There was one creative mind in particular, a project manager who was brilliant at keeping everything on track while maintaining that sense of creative freedom. And then there was the strategist, who had an innate ability to distill complex problems into simple, actionable insights, ensuring that every design decision was backed by a solid foundation.

Being part of AKQA’s Sydney office meant more than just working on exciting projects. It meant being surrounded by incredibly talented people who inspired you to push the envelope and think outside the box daily. The high expectations were always balanced by a sense of camaraderie and mutual respect.

Working in an agency with such a global reach, known for delivering award-winning campaigns and cutting-edge digital products, gave me a renewed sense of pride and passion for what I do. It was an environment where innovation wasn’t just encouraged—it was expected, and to be part of that journey was an accomplishment in itself.

AKQA in Miller’s Point will always be a special chapter in my career—one that brought together creativity, technology, and an uncompromising pursuit of excellence. And with projects like the NBN kiosk display, I left feeling like I had contributed something meaningful to the agency’s legacy of pioneering digital experiences.
